Artwork Courtesy of Mike Nixon - all rights reserved You will also need to review Mike's detailed "how-to" on renewing the fuel transfer tube and float bowl vent o-rings here. This booklet alone and other neat CBX Instructional Guides from Mike Nixon are available here at Mike's Book Nook! I also recommend that you refer to the official Honda Factory Workshop Manual. There is some critical information there on re-joining and aligning the carb bodies to prevent binding of the throttle and choke shafts...very important! You can download and print a shop manual here (scroll down to CBX Technical References). My Master Kit includes all the o-rings needed for renewing the fuel transfer tubes (main and accelerator) as well as the air cut-off circuit tube connectors. I also now include 12 high quality, plated M3 x 6mm (0.5 pitch) panhead screws for securing the choke butterfiles. The choke butterflies must be removed during disassembly of CBX carbs to renew the side-to-side transfer o-rings. The staked OEM choke butterfly screws are very difficult to re-use. You will need to use some medium strength Lock-Tite to secure my screws. Note: you may also need the so-called "air tees" and "air straight joints" (vent tube connectors) as these are frequently deteriorated. These are not in my Master Kit. These aren't super critical pieces, since they are only vent circuits that equalize the carbs to outside atmospheric pressure.
"Air Tees" (OEM on left, Tim's Reproduction on right) "Air Straight Joints" (OEM on left, Tim's Reproduction on right) Nice billet aluminum reproductions of these are available from Tim's CBX (wonderful CBX resource!) if you decide you need them. Tim's part numbers are:
Note: No jets or jet needles are supplied with my kits. My experience is that these can normally be cleaned and re-used. Aftermarket needles are not sized as accurately as the OEM needles and may introduce lean / rich problems where none existed. Unless your needles are worn or bent, I recommend re-using them. If you try to buy jet needles from Honda, you'll discover that they are only available as a set which includes the CV slide, cap and jet needle. The price will make you faint! If you need jets, buy aftermarket kits such as those from K&L or spring for the genuine Honda bits. Also, there are no float valve/seat assemblies in my kit. Many aftermarket rebuild kits include float valve/seat assemblies of dubious quality. In the past, there have been many problems with these aftermarket items. Most of the problems related to the aftermarket float needles being incorrectly sized (too short) resulting in unreliable (or nonexistent) fuel shutoff. Some are OK. I've not included them in this kit, because the rubber tips and seats on the OEM item will last nearly forever and can usually be cleaned and reused. If you decide to reuse your existing float assemblies, be sure to remove and clean the small fuel strainer beneath the float seat! So, I've left float valve/seat assemblies out of my kit to keep the cost down and give you a choice on what to buy if you think new ones are needed. If you need new float valve/seat assemblies, you can buy the OEM item and not have a worry. This way you'll also get new fuel inlet screens (the plastic strainers installed below each float valve). The Honda part number is #16011-422-004. You will need to order 6 of these. Or, take a slight gamble and go with aftermarket float valve/seat assemblies which are available at reasonable cost from numerous suppliers. When you use aftermarket float valve/seat assemblies you will need to carefully remove, clean and reuse your existing fuel inlet screens. My CBX Master Kit includes 106 total pieces (I count the air cutoff overhaul kit and accelerator pump kit as only "1" piece each in my total count even though each actually has a diaphragm, spring, seal, boot, etc.). Considerable skill is required to install this high quality kit correctly. Since I can't control this important variable, there is no warranty on these. Rest assured that they are of the highest quality materials and workmanship. Each kit has been carefully packed and inspected to ensure that all items are included. Warning: Please open the package very carefully when it arrives. Many of the parts are very small so take appropriate precautions. If you chose to open the package in the dark over your gravel driveway, after 1 or 12 beers, please don't later complain that you are a "few o-rings short." Seriously, do be careful when you open the package! Not sure can handle your own rebuild? IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANYWHERE ELSE, FROM ANYBODY, AT ANY PRICE UNTIL NOW...THESE ARE NEW! Up until now, float pins have been available only from Honda as part of a "Float Set" which includes the float. The Honda part number for the CBX float set is: 16013-679-005 which currently lists for $41.10 each. So, to get 6 float pins, you would have to spend $246.60 at full retail!
CBX Float Pivot Pins Float pins can be a bear to remove. Often they are bent or damaged in the process. Worse, ham-fisted removal efforts unfortunately can result in broken float pivot posts which ruins the whole carb body. Be careful removing these! Liberal and patient soaking with PB Blaster or equivalent is advised before you attempt removal. Randakk's float pins are designed specifically for the Honda CBX. They are made from from precision machined stainless steel stock to precise dimensions. They are cut to length to very close tolerances and the ends are finished just like OEM. Be sure to de-burr the float pivot post bores on the carb body before installing these. Make sure the corresponding bores in the floats themselves are free of burrs as well. The float must pivot freely when installed for proper operation. CBX Float Pivot Pins Note: I'm selling these only in a set of 6 float pins. Price: $24.75 per set of 6 including US domestic shipping and handling. International orders: Read this and please contact me before placing an order! I will send special ordering instructions.
