Recently,
I became aware of this neat GL1000 when it received a nice mention
and photo in a recent article in Vintage Motorcycles Magazine
written by Andy Westlake about DiFazio-equipped bikes.
The article is highly recommended. Hub-steering is a terrific
engineering idea! Too bad mainstream motorcycle manufactures never
fully embraced the idea.

I
was able to contact Dave and he was kind enough to supply additional
details about this bike:
- Difazio
Hub Steering (second install...the first was destroyed in an
accident)
- Longer
than standard Maxton rear shocks
- Wider
rear rim with 140/80 - 17 tire and braced swingarm
- Megacycle
cams are fitted
- Stainless
one piece exhaust valves
- 4-into-4
megaphone exhaust
- Modifications
to the standard carbs and clutch
- Auxiliary
oil cooler
- Last
dyno'd at 82.5 BHP at the rear wheel!
- 107,000+
miles on the odometer
I've always felt that my RC-003
was the world's best handling GL1000. However, Dave may have me
covered with this creation. Perhaps I can convince Dave to bring
this bike to one of my Rallys for a comparo?
Very
impressive to say the least!
