Standard Oil Filter Conversion Kit

This well-engineered conversion kit allows the use of auto spin-on oil filters and makes oil changing a joy! Beautifully crafted by my friend Bob Hagerman. Say good-bye to the messy OEM oil filter canister and cartridge. One less excuse not to change your oil!

Obviously, this is not intended for show bikes, but it's perfect for real road warriors. This unit has been thoroughly tested on RC-003: click here

T-6 aluminum with highly polished finish

Fits the following motorcycles:

  • Honda GL1000
  • Honda GL1100
  • Honda GL1200
  • Honda CB 750 (1970-83)
  • Honda CB 550 (1974-83)
  • Honda CB 500 (1971-77)

Shown mounted on GL1000...filter not included

Features:

  • Simple 20-minute, "once and done" installation
  • Screws into existing oil filter bolt hole
  • Machined from T-6 aluminum with highly polished finish
  • Instructions included
  • Permits the use of these economical, readily available auto spin-on filters (not included in kit)
  • Adapter-to-engine block o-ring seal included
  • Modern filters incorporate anti-drain back valve (not in OEM design)
  • Many feel that modern filters offer a more reliable pressure relief valve than the OEM design.

Note: Competing adapters are available in the marketplace made from stainless steel. Consider this: stainless steel is about 3 times heavier than aluminum. This is a substantial chunk of metal! My fabricator chose the correct material for the application in my opinion. An aluminum adapter which mates to an aluminum engine block is an ideal choice. It makes no sense to lug around a piece that weighs 3 times as much as necessary. Plus stainless material cost is higher, and it is far more difficult to machine and polish. The wear on machining tools is much greater with stainless. Finally, it is much harder to fabricate to tight tolerances with stainless steel.

Note: Fram numbers are provided for reference...any equivalent brand with 3/4"-16 threads and a seal diameter of 3 inches or less will work. I'm well aware of the "controversy" regarding the quality of Fram filters so please don't email me any information about that "issue" or bash my poor judgement about oil filters online. As I say, the Fram numbers (and pictures) are provided to assist in cross-referencing any equivalent filter you prefer.

Note: No filter is included in the kit. You can source filters locally at any auto parts outlet.

Note: A filter with a 20mm thread will go on this adapter, but the threads engage by a mere .012 inch (0.3 mm) or less. It is likely that the threads will strip allowing the filter to become loose, resulting in rapid loss of oil. This includes the OEM Honda Goldwing 1500 filter, and likely any "motorcycle filter". Most motorcycle-specific filters have metric threads. DO NOT USE FILTERS WITH 20MM THREADS!!!

Note: Installation is quick and simple, but the mounting instructions must be followed carefully. Failure to do so could result in engine damage or physical injury. If you lack mechanical aptitude, you should engage a professional motorcycle mechanic to perform the installation for you.

Considerable skill is required to install this high quality kit correctly. Since I can't control this important variable, there is no warranty on these. Rest assured that they are of the highest quality materials and workmanship.

Notes:

1. Not required or recommended for normal street machines. This unit is intended for bikes subjected to severe duty...as encountered when the engine output (and heat generation) has been increased substantially above stock via supercharging, turbocharging, nitrous oxide, etc. Suitable for competition machines.

2. Also appropriate for sidecar and trike conversions.

3. No remote cooler, hoses or fittings are provided. I provide sources for you to buy those items in the installation instructions.

4. No filter is included in the kit. You can source filters locally at any auto parts outlet.

5. Generally, the Filter Recommendations here apply, but be aware that the adapter is 1/2" thicker than the standard adapter above. This extra thickness may present clearance issues with longer filters on some installations.

6. Generally, this adapter will fit all the models listed above for the standard adapter, but be aware that the adapter is 1/2" thicker than the standard adapter above. This extra thickness may present clearance issues with longer filters on some installations.

7. The adapter can rotate 360 degrees for mounting flexibility.

8. 2 outlet ports and 1 return port are provided to allow plumbing flexibility...the unused port is closed via a threaded plug (provided).

9. Ports are threaded to accept 3/8" NPT male fittings.

10. 3/8" NPT male-to-8AN male fitttings used with Aeroquip type custom hoses recommended.

11. 3/8" NPT male-to-1/2" ID hose barb + hose clamps can be used with high pressure bulk hose.

12. Each machine will require an individual plumbing solution. Considerable skills are required to design and execute reliable, safe plumbing.

Note: Mounting instructions must be followed carefully. Failure to do so could result in engine damage or physical injury. If you lack mechanical aptitude, you should engage a professional motorcycle mechanic to perform the installation for you.
