Motorcycle
Fine Art
I'm mainly known as a "nuts-and-bolts" guy. I do in fact love
the mechanical wizardry Honda accomplished with the vintage
Hondas I love...notably the original GL1000 and the CBX. Today,
it's really hard to appreciate just how significant this hardware
was when first introduced. Both bikes represented remarkable
leaps in performance and function. The fact that the GL1000
launched the GoldWing brand and it's phenomenal market success speaks for itself. The CBX was dropped by Honda
due to marketing vicissitudes, but the legend continues to grow.
However,
I derive just as much satisfaction when viewing the original
Honda GL1000 and CBXs, not as machines, but rather
as rolling pieces of very exquisite art. Many
motorcycles stir my passion for great design elevated to art.
If
you appreciate motorcycle art, this website is a must: Ed
Youngblood's MotoHistory:
http://www.motohistory.net/.
Highly recommended!
I
could rattle off a dozen of my favorite motorcycles, but none
tops the GL1000 and CBX to my eye. I defy anyone
to pick a line or curve on these bikes that doesn't approach
perfection. The engine details are amazing. I enjoy looking
at a well-preserved or restored model almost as much as riding
one. That's one of the reasons I've pursued the following...
Limited
Edition Vintage Honda Abstract Prints by R.L. Parker
In
collaboration with my good friend R.L. Parker, I'm pleased to
offer a limited edition series of exquisite prints. R.L.'s work
captures a fantastic abstraction of the art in these fabulous
machines.
These
large limited edition prints must be seen to be appreciated
(the low resolution images below don't do them justice). I proudly
own and display one of each!
Each
of these pieces starts as one of R.L.’s original digital photographs.
R.L. Uses various software techniques to discover what he calls
the “the evocative image” hidden in the original photo. When
R.L. is satisfied with the result, he has the piece professionally
printed by a master printer in Wisconsin. The printer uses only
archival materials and an ink-based process called “giclee”
to produce a beautiful and long-lasting work of art.
Sometimes
we take the beauty of the things around us for granted. These
pieces open your eyes to some of that beauty. Additional prints
in each series are planned.
Artist's
Statement:
The
Evocative Image - my goal as an artist is to portray
common things in a way that evokes the pleasure of seeing
something familiar as if for the first time. My approach
often takes the form of a closer-than-usual, sometimes abstract
point of view. I use texture, composition, color, light
and shadow in pursuit of the evocative image.

Metal
Motorcycle Sculptures by Bruce Acosta
My
friend Bruce Acosta is the leading motorcycle sculptor in the
country. Bruce recently completed his most challenging work
of motorcycle art to date - one of my 1975 Honda GL1000s! See
below.
First
some background. If you own a Honda GL1000 - congratulations! You own one of the best motorcycle
designs ever. I'm biased of course, but the well-regarded folks at the Guggenheim Museum
selected the original Honda GL1000 as one of the featured machines
in the wildly popular Art of the Motorcycle exhibition
series.
I
strongly recommend this book which documents the Guggenheim
selections. Gorgeous photography is an understatement. This
book will embarrass any other book right off your coffee table!

Art
of the Motorcycle-
Originally
published to accompany the enormously popular Guggenheim
Museum exhibition, the book includes entries on over
100 spectacular bikes including the landmark 1975
Honda Gl1000. New to this paperback edition is a 16-page
illustrated section featuring the magnificent motorcycles
that were added to the exhibition when it traveled
to the Guggenheim Las Vegas.

Motorcycle Sculpture:
Here
is the stunning sculpture Bruce Acosta created for me. This
piece was unveiled at the Randakk's 2006 Customer Appreciation
Rally.

About the Artist:
Combining
more than 20 years of metal sculpting with a love for artistic
expression, Bruce Acosta has created dozens of his trademark
motorcycle sculptures.

Bruce Acosta
Bruce
does metal sculptures of human figures, animals, still life
and abstracts, but motorcycles are his passion. Each sculpture
is conceived with a spark of imagination and realized by the
flame of the welder's torch. Many of the sculptures have moving
parts, such as wheels and handlebars. Acosta's attention to
detail endears the sculptures to collectors and admirers. Each
motorcycle is signed and numbered. There is no painting involved.
The metals used give off different sheens. A protective coating
is used to finish off the sculpture and will provide lasting
beauty for years to come.
Below
are are few other pieces Bruce has done.
To Commission a Piece:
You've
worked hard and have achieved a measure of success in life.
If you are a lucky man like me, you have a few beautiful bikes
in your garage (never enough!).
You probably wish you could ride more, but the various requirements
of life chew up large chunks of your time. The corner office
is great, but it does come with strings attached...mainly to
your free time.
Here's
a way to enjoy the "art of the motorcycle" when you are not
actually riding or spending time in your garage. Have your special
bike rendered in a one of a kind metal sculpture by Bruce Acosta.
You can display it in the corner or your office or some other
special place. You appreciate unique and beautiful things -
what could be better than this?
Each
motorcycle sculpture by Bruce Acosta is individually signed
and numbered. Each piece is unique, inspired by his artistic
vision or by a customer's special request. The sculptures pictured
on this website are owned by collectors and are therefore unavailable
for purchase. However, new works in these or other styles may
be commissioned.
If
you would like to commission a motorcycle sculpture by Bruce,
please contact him directly via this website:
www.bruceacosta.com
Please
note that Bruce has a significant backlog of work, so plan accordingly.
Works
are priced at $3,000 and up depending on complexity. The average
piece requires 100+ hours of labor. Finished sizes vary, but
are typically about 24 inches to 30 inches long.
