Details on the 2007 Event (as originally posted)

I'm very pleased to announce the Second Annual Randakk's Cycle Shakk Customer Appreciation International Rally. This should be one of the largest gatherings ever of vintage Honda GL1000s. Since I've added products for the Honda GL1100 and CBX, I'm expecting a significant turn-out of those models as well. This is an inclusive event...all vintage Honda riders are welcome. In fact, all riders and bikes are welcome of any marque...so long as you have an appreciation for the early Wings and other vintage models I love.

Date: June 15 -17, 2007

Location: Fontana Village Resort at Fontana Dam, NC

Schedule of Events: details here

Recommended Rally Ride Routes: details here

Rally Updates:

May 9, 2007: Special Guest - Doug Snavely and "Cyborg" will attend:

Doug is the owner of Cyborg - a '78 GL1000 with CBX fairing and other mods. More importantly, Doug is the original Dragon Slayer and founder of the Deal's Gap Riding Society. In fact, Doug is the person who named the Dragon the "Dragon."

February 10, 2007: Leading early GoldWing Gurus will participate at Randakk's Rally!

Rally attendees are in for a real treat! Two of the world's leading technical authorities on early GoldWings have confirmed their participation at the Rally:

Rally Overview:

I've been very blessed with the growth and success of my business. However, having a web-based business with no retail presence means that I rarely get to meet and enjoy face-to-face interaction with my customers. This annual event allows me to meet many of the great friends I've made in cyber-space!

This will be a low-key, 2 day event for my customers. If you need help with the definition of "customer," please check here: www.dictionary.com Seriously, anyone with an appreciation for vintage bikes such as the early GoldWings is welcomed to register and attend. Registering below via the PAYPAL button entitles you to a commemorative T-shirt so that automatically qualifies you as a "customer."

I want real running bikes to attend, not "trailer queens." You have plenty of time to finish your restorations and rejuvenations, so get busy!

The roads in this are of NC are beyond spectacular. Fontana is quite close to 2 of the most famous roads for motorcycling in the country:

In fact, the Resort is only 9 miles from Deal's Gap...starting point for the infamous "Dragon." Suggested ride routes are easy...leave the parking lot and ride in any direction!

I've just learned that 2 other major events will overlap the Randakk Rally. The National Yamaha R1/R6 Owner's Association will have 250+ attendees at their annual event. A major mountain bike race is also scheduled for the same weekend. Fontana Village resort is a major facility, but they are expecting all lodging to be full that week. Since there are not many other hotel choices nearby, make your plans now!

In a weak moment and fit of generosity, I've decided to pick up the tab for dinner on Saturday night. The meal will be a cholesterol and sodium rich extravaganza! If you have special dietary requirements, you will need to make your own provisions. No alcohol will be served at dinner.

I've added a casual "meet and greet" social for Friday evening. I'm buying the first beer for all attendees who pick up their registration material Friday afternoon.

Planned Activities:

Randakk's People Choice Award Trophy to be awarded...Rules here

Special Banquet Guest Speaker:

"Think Quick...Be Safe"

Susan Galpin

Susan Galpin is a high mileage rider extraordinaire and winner of numerous BMW mileage awards. She is an MSF nationally certified instructor, a vintage and production racer and "Queen of the Quick." Susan will share with Randakk Rally participants the essential elements of cornering techniques that have kept her safe and sure through 600,000+ miles of riding. She has spent many riding seasons instructing women and men on the challenging mountain roads of North Georgia. Susan loves the ride.

I guarantee you will learn some highly useful information for road riders:

Event Details:

Date: June 15-17, 2007

Location: Fontana Village Resort at Fontana Dam, NC

See: http://www.fontanavillage.com/ Some of the best backroads and twisties for motorcycle riding in the country! Fontana Village Resort is a "bike friendly" establishment. The resort hosts many large bike and sports car rallies of all types.

Base Hotel:

Fontana Village Resort - Fontana Dam, NC

Toll Free: (800) 849-2258

Fontana Village Resort offers a wide variety of accommodations:

I have negotiated a large block of rooms, cabins, cottages and campsites at a variety of attractive rates for this event. My "hold" on these rooms will expire on April 1, 2007 so make your plans as early as possible. You must call the hotel yourself to register. Mention this code for the discount: RANDAKKS.

Hotel expenses are your responsibility. Ditto for cancellations and room guarantees.

Important: since Fontana Village is a "tourist" destination and June is "high season," if you must cancel your reservation for any reason, you must do so yourself by May 15th. The hotel's cancellation charge policy will apply (see below). To clarify: telling me that you're not coming for any reason does not also cancel your hotel reservation. You must do that yourself.

Directions: click here

Registration Fee: $22.00

This small fee will help calibrate interest and help with sizing the hotel room commitments. The fee will include a commemorative Randakk's Cycle Shakk T-shirt for all attendees plus the banquet meal on Saturday night. If you pick up your registration materials Friday afternoon, you'll also get a coupon for one free beer at the "meet and greet" social on Friday evening. Lodging and other meals will be the responsibility of the attendee.

Hotel Cancellations:

The hotel facility hosting this event is a resort property with special reservation cancellation provisions. If you are unable to attend for any reason, you must cancel your hotel reservations directly with the hotel yourself. The hotel's cancellation policy will apply:

"Releasing an individual room before thirty days prior to arrival, forfeits a $50.00 processing fee, the remainder of the deposit will be refunded. However, if the room is released inside thirty days of arrival, the full first nights rent will not be refunded."

Rally Registration Cancellations:

The $22.00 Registration Fee will not be refunded for any reason. Instead, all canceled registrations will be mailed a Commemorative Randakk's Cycle Shakk T-Shirt after the event ($22.00 value). T-shirt details here

Other Important Details:

Event details will be documented on this page and updated as appropriate. Thanks for your interest. I hope to see you at Fontana!

Finally, please don't plan to skip the registration detail and just "drop by." If that's your plan, be aware that some activities will be inside. The hotel is securing a special area of their parking lot for us to use for this event that will not be accessible unless you've got credentials. Non-registrants will not be eligible for the trophy or other prizes. Non-registrants won't receive the swell T-shirt nor will there be "space at the table" at the banquet on Saturday night.

I hate to be a "heavy" enforcing these rules, but it would not be fair to the people who've registered if I didn't.

Note: This event is sponsored solely by Randakk's Cycle Shakk. I am a member of and support CWC, VJMC, GWRRA and other groups. Members of these and similar clubs are welcome to register and attend.

Note: This is not a public event. Registration is required to participate.

Questions: email me at: randakk@hotmail.com

Registration Fee: $22.00 (US) per attendee .

Online Registration is closed for the 2007 Rally.
