Randakk Gallery - Notable Customer Bikes

THIS IS A VERY LARGE WEBPAGE. IT LOADS SLOWLY SO PLEASE BE PATIENT!

Below are some of my favorite bikes. All the bikes below are owned by me or customers of Randakk's Cycle Shakk. In some cases, they are Randakk restorations. Others are owner-restorations. My current show bike "Marilyn" is a Pete Boody restoration.

Like to see your bike immortalized here? I'm fairly picky about the bikes I include. It's hard to verify, but I'm told that bikes that appear in this Gallery command a significant premium when they hit the market.

Show bike is "Bertha" - my final, ground-up restoration

This special bike took second place overall in the Japanese class for 1973-1975 bikes at the 2004 Vintage Motorcycle Days Bike Show at Mid-Ohio (lost out to a '73 Kawasaki with 100 miles!). Many consider this the top vintage bike show in the country. In 2005, the owner was invited to show this bike at the prestigious Eyes on Design car show in Detroit. This is a premier auto design concours with multi-million dollar cars and the auto industry's top design awards ceremony. The owner was referred to Eyes on Design by the folks at AMA (Bertha was owned by David Hokanson at this show).

Note posted August 1, 2008: This bike just won the Second Place Trophy in the Japanese Division at the 2008 AMA Mid-Ohio Vintage Days Bike Show (again!) The winner was a 1975 Honda CB400F "trailer queen" (owned by David McGuire at this show).

DOHC - Fours

Kevin Ditzler Checket's '81 750C - Oviedo, FL

Very nice barn rescue. Kevin says: "I like to call this bike, "... is that a Triumph?" This '81 Honda 750 Custom was rescued by my brother at a Mennonite farm in Pennsylvania a few years ago. It was outside for countless years and the entire bike was spray painted flat black, including all chrome. He started the clean-up process and could never get it running. Giving up, he sold it to me two years ago and I've recently finished it... It is now running like new, thanks to your carb kit. Unfortunately, I don't have a "before" photo, but you could only imagine the work involved to get this classic back on the road."

"Specials"

"Before and After" - Bob Hichborn's GL1100-powered Pulse - Clermont, FL

The Pulse was designed by Jim Bede, the inventor of the BD5 mini jet. It went through the development cycle in the early 80's and into production from 1985 to 2000. They made about 350 units, the last vehicles out the door used GL1200 drivetrains and included AC. The first units used a severely underpowered Yamaha 400 aircooled engine. These early units had were plagued with overheating issues. GoldWing power saved the day! More details on these fascinating machines here.
