You're favorite tune from ol' Etta is quietly moving through the air. There's an old fan on slow moving the stale wet air with a "thwat" every fourth rotation of the blade and your shop lay quietly a-top a pile of vintage magazines dreaming of mice and cheese... This is your slice of heaven, your workshop, your man cave and what a wonderful place it is.
You're elbows deep into a W650 re-build. You picked it up on the cheap from a guy who didn't know the gem he had. It was a bit tarnished, but all-in-all it was perfect for your plan. Low and lean is the game with this one, a Brat / Resto-mod. The best of both worlds...something stripped down and ready for speed with top flight suspension for handling all the corners and avoiding the Bluehairs on the road.
Tonight you're focus is cutting apart the rear subframe and grafting in the new DCC tail-hoop you picked up. The cut-off wheel of the grinder sinks into the steel tubing like a hot knife in butter, sparks are flying everywhere. You're in the midst of your own perfect symphony. The vibrations combined with the resonance of the Japanese steel tubing emits a distinct note you can hear under all the noise. Similar to that of the sound of a Samurai's blade cutting through a fallen comrades armor to remove it revealing the severity of the situation.
You get through all the cutting and after you shape up the tubes preparing them for the grafting of the rear hoop by filing the interior for a smooth fit of the frame slugs you stop and relish in the moment. You're taking something made from steel and commanding it like a general. It melds before you and awaits your next instruction. What a feeling...
You tack weld the left side of the hoop first, then line of the right and bzzzzz the MIG lays down a perfectly round dollop of steel. It's like a pearl. Now that it's secure you setup for the final assult, welding the hoop in place securely and right as you flip your lid down Etta stops and you iPhone alarm goes off. What are you forgetting?
Your lid flips back up and you look across the shop to a photo on your toolbox, you're supposed to be meeting your family for dinner. CRAP! You're father-in-law was a Marine Core Sergeant and absolutely hates it when people are late.
Fortunately you notice you have on a decent pair of black jeans and work boots on as you make your way to the bathroom to splash some water on your face and clean the grit from your hands. Your shirt though, that's another story. You're heading to a decent restaurant and you favorite White Snake tee just won't do. And then you see out of the corner of your eye the DCC box your tail-hoop came in. It looks like there's something else in it!
Like a gift from the Gods of Speed the 3-button DCC Henley unfolds in your hands. Made in America by hand the fabric is soft and supple and refined. Surely this will be enough to impress the family...and let's be honest, you wont have to let go of the shop vibes because you're still going to rocking your favorite marquee under that nice leather jacket you have.
The DCC henley, because we know sometimes you need to dress up a bit, but don't want to leave the shop behind.
